Dear Graduate Admission Committee,
With great pleasure, I’m writing this letter to support Mr. Ge Li’s application into your M.S. program in Computer Science or Software Engineering for fall semester 2014. As his both course instructor and program mentor, I have known him well, and I hope that my words could help you evaluate his candidacy.
My acquaintance with Ge should be traced back to one and half years ago when he participated in the "Blue Bridge Cup" National Software Design Competition in the fall semester of 2011. As his program advisor, I witnessed Ge’s strong background in mathematics, good programming skills and excellent problem-solving ability. I clearly remembered that we had some differences in adopting algorithms. Although I had recommended him a more effective algorithm I thought, he didn’t use it at once, on the contrary, he insist in adopting his own algorithm via checking a large amount of information in references, which displayed to occupy less resources and helped him won the third prize finally in Liaoning Province Competition Area. I was impressed by his good performance at that time.
Then in the next two semesters, I was happy to have more opportunities to contact Ge by being his major course instructor in Java, Database, and Advanced Java respectively. I found Ge was also a diligent and hard-working boy besides being inquisitive. He always listened to the lecture seriously, took key notes carefully and finished the homework in time with high quality. To be mentionable, he was talented in programming. As my course advocating the way of self-studying textbooks before class and coding according to the topic in class; Ge could always finish the most of coding fastest and solve the abnormalities fluently, which was superior than most of other students. Moreover, he is an optimistic, sober and amicable boy with great popularity. He was always ready to help others with his own efforts whenever in class or out of class. Thus he could gain the respect and maintain a wonderful rapport with others. It is certain that he is highly spoken of by most of people approaching him.
Last semester, I felt a great honor to become Ge’s junior end-of-term project advisor and the thesis project mentor. Through guiding him the project of Online Resources Communication Platform System last semester, I considered that Ge has the great potential to be an outstanding graduate student in computer science based on his good performance, because part of his programming has been selected out as a reference for the School Online Examination System. Certainly, I’m expecting his creative coding and outstanding oral defense in the final graduate project of The Design and Implementation of Online Learning Platform this semester.
Upon hearing Mr. Ge Li’s intention of applying for his graduate study abroad, I feel very glad to offer my full support. I believe that this opportunity represents a mutual benefit. He will gain important life skills and academic development while your program will be gifted with a talented student that will contribute tremendously to your academic excellence and cultural diversity.
