The subject syllabus for this course indicates that one of the Subject Learning Outcomes is for students to “understand and act on the implications of cultural differences for decision-making, negotiation, team functioning and leadership”.

You are to select one of decision-making, negotiation, team functioning or leadership as a topic, and write a 1,200-word (maximum), double-spaced paper, exclusive of any references, figures, tables and graphs that you may use, and address the following questions:

1. Which of these four is your chosen topic for this take-home assignment? Describe the domain you are considering and the ways in which performance in this domain of management is to be assessed;

2. Describe what is known about how good performance in this domain is achieved by individuals and organizations, i.e., what are the processes impacting upon performance in this domain;

3. Describe how these processes and assessment of the performance may be affected by national and organizational culture, indicating why you expect these results;

4. Describe how these processes and outcomes may be affected by inter-cultural interactions occurring in the negotiation, the leading or the team functioning domain that you have chosen, indicating why you expect these results?

This assignment is worth 30% of your course grade. Your essay is to be as thorough, insightful and informed as possible within the constraints of length and time, as well as grounded in knowledge gained from the required text book (Thomas, 2008), lectures, and the management literature. You may consult any relevant sources, but be sure to cite any sources you paraphrase and to use quotations for any material that is taken from another source [and reference it!]. Use APA style and double space.

A hard copy of your assignment is due in class on the 3rd of December. Give a word count of the 

text length. It must be submitted over Blackboard before class after passing “Turnitin”. Marks

will be deducted for late submissions - the later, the greater the deduction.
